Many professions require CPR certifications, whether by OSHA standards or by the state and city law.
In world of emergency response, the company you chose to train with matters. Standards matter, the quality of your instructor matters. A few hours of your time may seem inconsequential... but when it comes to cardio pulmonary resuscitation, minutes matter and can mean the difference between life and death.
In New York City, the following are required to be CPR certified:
• Anyone who works with children, the elderly, and the disabled
• Construction and manufacturing industry employees
• Fitness trainers, health club employees, massage therapists and sports coaches
• All educational staff members
• Amusement Park staff
• Pharmacists
• Hospital staff
• Nurses and Nursing students
• Life guards, swimming instructors and coaches
• Camp counselors and staff
• All employees in a doctor’s, dentist’s office, hospital staff, substance abuse counselors
• Police officers, corrections officers, firefighters, EMT/Paramedics security workers, nurses, nursing students, pharmacists
Some of these professions may require a specific higher level of training such as BLS or above.

A quick search of google brings up hundreds of listing for quick CPR certifications, online only training and card mills that will just "certify" you for a fee. At the end of the day these companies are doing you a disservice under the guise of convenience. These skills are important for you, your family and those who may ultimately need your help one day. Rapid activation of the emergency response system and early intervention with CPR has proven to save lives and this is something you should feel confident in when you complete your class.
